- Description
- shimmer was composed for the Samobor Music Festival in Croatia. The idea behind the piece was to evoke a notion of shimmering either in image or feeling and to allow this the most dramatic representation in sound. The work seeks to balance a slow, expressive melody against an ever emerging pulsating figure that becomes increasingly animated and brings the work to its climax. The piece places high ensemble demands on the players for intense synchronization accuracy and in balancing some of the unusual timbral blends I have used in the piece. In turns expressive and virtuosic, shimmer is a short showpiece for superbly skilled musicians.
